National Age Groups - Day 2
29th July 2010
Day 2's heats kicked off with the 400 Freestyle Girls... Katie Jepson stormed her way to a new pb of 4:35 and narrowly missed out on the 13yrs final (11th position). Next up were Katie Mawdsley (4:31) and Lucy Davis (4:28, pb), who both qualified for the final in 4th and 2nd respectively. Well done ladies!

The girls were back in action later in the session in the 100m Butterfly. Lucy clocked 1:07.2, another pb, and Katie M did 1:09.2, just outside her best..

The last heat swim of the morning session saw the girls 4x100 freesylers in action. Katie M led off with a 1:02.2, Lucy then clocked 1:00.8 on the 2nd leg.... Katie Gaffing then had her first swim of the meet on the 3rd leg (1:04.2), and Katie J brought us home with a blistering 59.7!! The girls were the fastest team through to the final in the evening session... Great job girls!

The afternoon session saw Tony Lucas step up in the 1500FS. He started well, but dropped off the medal pace at around the 700m mark, however, he held on for a new pb of 16:49, and 5th position. Well done Tony..

The finals session kicked off with Katie M and Lucy in the 400m Freestyle. Both girls got off to strong start turning at the 200m mark in 2:10/11... Katie then suffered for the early pace and dropped out of the medal positions, however, Lucy managed to hold on and secure a new pb of 4:26.00 and a bronze medal! Great job Lucy - that's a full set now :-)

It was a long wait for the Girls Relay (over 2hrs after the 400s!), but the preparations were carefully planned and the pre-race tactics were spot on... We led off with Lucy this time (1:00.3 - new PB!!), Katie M took over for the second leg with Gallica in a strong position at the head of the race, she held her own clocking 1:01.1, Katie G was next up on the 3rd leg and powered away from the chasing pack as the race between Stockport Metro and Galica reached boiling point..... Katie J was waiting on the block with a cool, calm and focussed stare as Gaff approached the wall.. The takeover was well timed and she edged away from the Stockport anchor swimmer up the first 50m, and then turned with a clear lead. She kept pulling away and powered to victory in a 59.4! The G Force girls won by a clear 2 seconds in the end to finish off another great day of racing for the Gallica Team..

So, the medal count so far...

2 Gold (Lucy Davis, Girls 4x100FS)

3 Silver (Tony Lucas, Lucy Davis, Katie Mawdsley)

1 Bronze (Lucy Davis)

That's 6 medals in total! 1 more than last year's total (2 silver, 3 bronze..) and there are 3 days left... Let's go G Force!!
