First up this morning was Amelia Candon in the Womens 200m Backstroke. Amelia powered her way to a 2:24.75 – a new lifetime best performance and another positive step forward after an already impressive start to the 2009-2010 season.
The Mens 1500m Freestyle saw the one and only appearance of Jordan Theaker this week in the first of 3 heats. Jordan was out strong at the 100/200/400/800m marks, but suffered towards the end of the event for his early pace, to finish just outside his best of just under 16 minutes, as he recorded 16:07.10.
Our last event of the morning was the Womens 400m Freestyle where 3 of our girls lined up alongside double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington in the marshalling area! However, this didn’t phase our young troops... Lucy Davis and Katie Mawdsley battled it out in the same heat and both recorded new lifetime best performances. Lucy stopped the clock on 4:30.83 – a staggering 7 second PB, and Katie stormed her way to 4:31.11 – a 3 second drop from her qualifying swim in January’s Burns’ Meet – and 9 seconds under the time she started this season on! Great job girls – outstanding!
Last up was Megan Davis who was looking to better her 4:26 PB split in the 800m event earlier in the week.. and she didn’t disappoint! Meg swam a controlled race from the outside lane and finished in an impressive 4:23.09, over 4 seconds under her entry time, and 3 seconds quicker than her 400m split on Wednesday – again, a great swim and worthy of much applause and appreciation.
The evening session was focussed on Stephanie Slater’s final in the Womens 100m Breaststroke. Steph had an outside lane having qualified in joint 8th position and stormed through the first 50m turning in just over 32 seconds, in 2nd position. Over the closing stages, Steph was under pressure from several other competitors and faded in the last 15m or so to finish in 7th position in a time of 1:11.05. Whilst Steph was hoping for much more, this was a season’s best performance and after a long injury lay-off towards the end of last season, it showed how far Steph has come along the road to recovery, and we’re all curious to see how fast Steph will swim after a few more months of work! Great job Slaternator, speed and strength sorted, fitness well on the way!
So, the G force go into the final day with the majority of all events entered as great PB swims, 4 swims to go, let’s see what our troops have left in the tank! Go G force!!!
