British Champs 2010 - Day 3
31st March 2010
We kicked off the day with a double PB in the Womens 800m Freestyle for Megan Davis. Meg attacked the race well (and was up against an Olympic medallist – Cassie Patten, in her 1st British Championships swim!), and turned in a new PB at the 400m mark (4:26.67) – although this turned out to be a little bit too fast and she dropped off her original pace towards the 500m mark. However, in true G Force style, she dug deep and finished in a new PB of 9:03.41 (shaving 2 seconds off her old time). This placed Meg 6th overall in the 1994/1995 (European Junior) Age Group. Well done Meg!

Next up was Anthony Lucas in the Mens 200m Backstroke. He was off to a strong start and touched the wall in an equal PB time of 2:10.76 (the same time he swam at the end of January when he took a massive 4 secs off his previous best). It was a brave effort from Tony, lining up against some older (& bigger!) guys at his first British Championships – well done!

The last swims of the morning session were Jessica Chadwick (2:40.07) and Stephanie Slater (2:40.00) in the Womens 200m Breaststroke. Both girls unfortunately made ‘schoolboy errors’ early in their races and paid the price in the second 100m – several important lessons learned...

The evening session was full of excitement for the Gallica Team with Daniel Sliwinski stepping up in the final of the Mens 100m Breaststroke. Unfortunately, Dan was a little over-eager on the 1st 35-50m of the race as he tried too ‘hard’ to achieve top speed. The field caught Dan in the final stages and he finished in 5th position (1:01.66), which was a big disappointment for all – however, there’s a positive in every negative, and Dan will learn from this experience. He is now looking to bounce back in the 50m (on Thursday) and 200m Breaststroke (on Saturday).

The G force have plenty of good swims still to come, so keep an eye out for the Day 4 results & report!
