In the afternoon session today we witnessed a stunning show of grit and determination from Jordan Theaker in the Mens 800m Freestyle. He led his heat from the start, swimming an aggressive but controlled 8:22.00. That was a new personal best by over 20secs, and he set the mark early on for the others in the 15/16yrs age group to chase.. and nobody could better it! Jordan took the title and the gold medal to secure our 5th of the meet so far.
Then came our one and only finalist in the evening session, Dan Sliwinski. After his world class showing in the 100m, he was focused on producing a well paced 200 to demonstrate his ability to compete in the longer of the 2 breaststroke events as he develops into a serious contender in World breaststroke swimming. He swam a brave race, going for his ambitious target pace of 2:09, and completed 75% of the task! At the 150m mark he was bang on, and only faded up the final 50m to finish in a new best time of 2:11.76 – an impressive time that ranks him up there with best of the Brits. Great job Danny - that makes it 6!!
Other swims today included a great PB for James Radcliffe in the 800m Freestyle – 8:32.94. That was James’ first big Freestyle PB for over a year, and was thoroughly deserved!
Justin Austin was 0.5secs outside his best for the 200m Butterfly this morning, having started aggressively he faded in the second 100m to finish in 2:10.48. Jordan Theaker’s other event of the day was a tired 200m IM heat swim, he finished in a time of 2:17.08.
The Gold Rush is great for the Team – let’s keep them flowing!! Ryan, Steph and Dan travel to the Tri Nations event tomorrow, but not until Steph has had a bash at the 50m Breaststroke heats in the morning… Best of luck to everyone as we go into the last 3 days of the meet….
